hi, same thing happened to me. after hours of fiddling with aspi layers, i found this page via google. i use a plextor 760-a. eventually, my xp machine did not recognize the drive. my problem was in the registry. this worked for me! http://www.pchell.com/hardware/cd_drive_error_code_39.shtml hope this helps, dooorag
