How does Audiograbber even work in W7 x64 when there is no ASPI?

I used Audio Catalyst for a decade. From 2003-now I used Windows XP and had to force it to take ASPI drivers using "Force ASPI". This weekend I finally upgraded to Windows 7. I was very very sad when I realized that Force ASPI does not work in Windows 7 and this outdated protocol is not used anymore. I tried installing Audio Catalyst anyway, but it was useless without ASPI. I spent a day looking for a great ripper similar to AC, and finally found Audiograbber, clearly made with the same source code (and by the same guy) - I installed and it works great - it even rips using ASPI despite the computer not having ASPI. Im just curious - HOW does it manage to do this?

Windows XP doesnt have ASPI either. At least none of the installs I ever did have it.

I install ASPI 4.71 every time I do an install of WINXP.

Windows 2000/XP and higher (including Windows 7) did not include ASPI support by default. This is because Microsoft developed and included their own interface, called SPTI.

Audiograbber supports SPTI, allowing you to rip great audio even from machines which do not have ASPI installed. Its not labelled as SPTI any more (it used to be). If you go into Audiograbbers settings and choose ASPI, you should see two radio buttons. "ASPI manager" is true ASPI, but "Win NT/2000 calls" is SPTI.
