How can I get "line in sampling" to create an mp3 right away, without first making a .wav?

I tried setting the MP3 settings to "MP3 via intermediate wav file. Delete the wav file" but that doesnt appear to work for line in sampling.

I just downloaded and tried the function for the first time in years.. used to work like a charm, but now appears buggy. Only producing .wav files for me too, despite basic program settings. sad.. will have to find another solution other than adding another conversion step.
