When I grab, it records via the mic on my Logitech webcam even though the music is playing correctly thru my speakers. I tried changing the Analogue setting (error msg says Windows not sending sound) but no luck. anonymous on 2011-01-16: Same here. Longtime user (years) and now with Win 7 finds no sound card. Solution, please!

Comments from the original thread allanr on 2010-11-19: I agree with Nate 100%. Ive used Audiograbber off and on since Nov 1999 - when it cost $25. Id be prepared to pay again for a supported version. It does all that I want and in a very logical fashion (on my XP machine). Fingers crossed it will work on W7 64bit when I try that.

Are you installing the last version? the one you can download here? Old versions worked fine in XP and maybe Windows Vista and Seven x32, but they dont work in x64. It happened to me when I installed Windows 7 x64. I opened my many years old Audiograbber installer and it didnt even executed giving an error. Downloaded latest version and worked fine.

You can use an own naming format to create custom tracknames AND subfolder structures. Just go to Options > Naming, check "Advanced" and enter a string. All options are documented when you click on "info". To have folders like "Artist - Album" with tracknames like "Tracknumber - Trackname" you can use the following custom format: %1 - %2%3 %4

Freedb suffers from a lot of uploads in ASCII encoding rather than UTF-8. So even though it supports UTF-8 well, many contributors use software that doesnt, and unknowingly put badly encoded discs in it. I was suffering this on Hebrew tracks, so I created a web application for fixing it. It can easily be used for any other language; once there is enough fixes my app automatically updates freedb. Use "Line in sampling" from the File menu. Youll have to open the audio mixer using the button that Audiograbber provides, or double-click on the speaker icon in your system tray (it doesnt always open from Autobiographer), select properties from the Options menu, then click on recording (or drop down the menu to select the audio input if the radio buttons are grayed out). Some computers will allow you to select the Stereo Mix as the recording input -- this is what you want. It all depends on the audio driver and what it exposes to Windows. Otherwise you can use a splitter cable from the line/speaker output to go to both your speakers and loopback to your line-in and record that. If you do that, you will have to mute the Line-In on the playback mixer or you will get terrible sounds... Youll have to adjust the audio levels of both the playback and record to get a get level. You want it to be in the middle most of the time, with a few peaks up to 90-95%, but never over 99% or you will get distortion. I tend to keep the playback level as high as possible and the record level as low as possible to give the best recording level -- this gives the lowest noise levels.

If you use the Microphone socket, maybe with volume boost to input your tracks it should work fine, although you will have to get the volume right. If you want to edit the tracks in any way then you really need to use AUDACITY, a free music editor which will also turn the tracks into mp3 but you have more control of the conversion of a wave file wave using Audiograbber FILE,/ Make mp3

Windows 2000/XP and higher (including Windows 7) did not include ASPI support by default. This is because Microsoft developed and included their own interface, called SPTI. Audiograbber supports SPTI, allowing you to rip great audio even from machines which do not have ASPI installed. Its not labelled as SPTI any more (it used to be). If you go into Audiograbbers settings and choose ASPI, you should see two radio buttons. "ASPI manager" is true ASPI, but "Win NT/2000 calls" is SPTI.

Comments from the original thread JBM on 2012-08-03: It is probable that your problems are due to using Lame as an exterior decoder. You should use it as an internal decoder: how to do this is explained in the audiograbber Help files. I use LameEnc DLL Version 1.32 (1/11/2011) Engine 3.99 and it will do all you want.

I followed the Microsoft solution completely in order to restore help capabilities of Win 7 for older type of help files and it works fine.

Try settings > more misc. There you can disable "Use internal sound effects".

If you are running a 64-bit Windows OS, the files may end up in a hidden folder such as c:\users\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\audiograbber These can be really tricky to find in a default setup because they dont necessarily even show up in a search.

v1.83: Settings, General Settings, Naming tab: Check: Use sub directories only for mp3 and wma This doesnt seem to be configurable re: actual folder for WAV files, but it will store them at the same directory level as the Sub Directories specified just above that parameter (instead of where the MP3 files are stored). Also, specify a Directory to store files in: i.e. C:\Ripped_music It will store the WAV files there, with the MP3 files in the Artist/Album Sub Directories specified in the associated check-boxes. This may not be optimal, but will indeed separate the WAVs from the MP3s.

Lets see if I can help you solve this. From the AG help file - So you need x3enc.exe. look in the AudioCatalyst install folder for that file. If it is there copy it to the Audiograbber install folder. Then in Audiograbber go to MP3 Settings and choose the External Encoder tab. If you cannot find x3enc.exe then youre stuffed unless you can fine a source for it (Xing Technology is out of business).

You need to click on the "Normalize now" button once youve recorded one or a group of tracks (however many it is that you start running out of room for the intermediate .wav file).
